BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 28. Azerbaijan made four million payments worth 813.2 million manat ($478.3 million) via Google Pay in 2023, Trend reports.
The data from a review of payment systems of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan shows that efforts for greater engagement with international card organizations and the introduction of innovative payment solutions in the country continued last year.
In the reporting year, following the Central Bank's initiative, as well as the support from the banking sector and international card organizations, Google Pay was activated in the country to increase contactless payment solutions and introduce innovative technology, the review noted.
Notably, Azerbaijan made four million payments worth 85.7 million manat ($50.4 million) via Google Pay in 2022.
Thus, the volume of payments increased by 9.5 times.
Meanwhile, last year, the number of payments via Google Pay grew by 9.9 times - up to 39.6 million transactions.
As of January 1 of this year, 20 out of 23 banks in Azerbaijan provided mobile banking services, and internet banking services were provided by all banks in the country.
