BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 24. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Azerbaijan, with the assistance of the International Labor Organization (ILO), plans to prepare a document on Azerbaijan's position on the labor market and gender equality within the framework of the fight against climate change in the run-up to COP29, Trend reports.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection informs from the seminar “Promoting gender-sensitive and equitable transition to environmental sustainability in the Republic of Azerbaijan” within the framework of the country's 2024 “29 Climate Talks: The Road to COP29” events.

Addressing the first day of the two-day seminar today, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Anar Aliyev noted that the negative effects of climate change are currently one of the biggest global problems.

“Along with addressing climate change issues concerning all segments of society, a fair approach to gender principles and involvement of all segments of the population in processes to achieve environmental sustainability is also important,” he emphasized.

The seminar was attended by UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, Deputy Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan Javanshir Alkhasov, Head of the Entrepreneurship Development Department, and Green Jobs Specialist of the ILO Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Cristina Martinez.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year, which will play an important role in mobilizing the international community to make progress in the fight against climate change.
