BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Azerbaijan is determined to turn into a green energy country and intends to actively promote the global energy transition, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at a ministerial meeting on clean energy and innovation in Foz do Iguasu within the framework of Brazil's presidency of the G20 (the G20 summit of the world's nations), Trend reports via Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry.
The Minister at this meeting announced the actual steps of Azerbaijan and its initiatives at COP29, which will be of international importance.
Thus, the initiative “Green Energy Zones and Corridors” is about ensuring supply and demand for Caspian Sea green energy supplies to the EU, which will enable the development of green energy zones with zero emissions.
“The ‘Commitment to Global Energy Storage and Grid Development’ initiative is formed based on the country's green course to integrate 2 GW of energy capacity into the power grid, which will more than double the share of renewable energy in our country's electricity production capacity, bringing it to 33 percent by 2027-29,” the information noted.
Azerbaijan also intends to export 5 GW of electricity by 2030.
Regarding the global energy transition processes in the world, the Energy Minister said Azerbaijan proposes to increase the global energy storage potential six times to 1,500 gigawatts by 2030, as well as to add or improve a total of more than 80 million kilometers of power grids in the world by 2040.
Azerbaijan also considers the development of hydrogen projects promising.
