BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. The period of exemption from value added tax (VAT) on the import and sale of the second- and third-level electric chargers for electric cars is extended for another two years in Azerbaijan.

How will this impact the electric car market in the country?

Recently, the use of electric vehicles has come to the fore due to the growing environmental problems around the world and to reduce carbon emissions. As it's known, Azerbaijan is taking important steps to combat climate change.

The availability and quality of charging infrastructure are crucial for expanding EV use. Extending the tax exemption will facilitate the establishment of new charging stations and the upgrade of existing ones.

Electric cars consume less energy and offer long-term economic benefits to users. They also contribute to reducing air pollution and lowering the carbon footprint. By extending this tax incentive, the government aims to create a broader network of charging stations, making electric cars' usage more convenient across the country. With more charging points, drivers will be able to travel longer distances in their EVs, supporting a broader adoption of electric transportation.

Currently, around 60 charging points are operating in Baku, two in Sumgayit, and up to 35 in the country's regions. Spanning Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions, the charging stations have been installed in Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Shusha, Khojavand, and Khojaly. For this year, the plan includes installing the charging stations at 147 locations across the country, with 69 in Baku and 58 in the country's regions, including 20 in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur.
