Azercell Concludes New Roaming Agreement

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Azerbaijan's leading mobile operator Azercell Telecom JV has put into operation GPRS/MMS roaming service with Austria Mobilkom operator, Claro from Brazil, Wind from Italy and MobilOne from Singapore.

This is the third GPRS/MMS roaming agreement between Azercell and Singapore and the first one with Austria, Italy and Brazil, the Company reports. At present Azercell's subscribers use services of Singapore SingTel Mobile and StarHub operators.

Up today Azercell Telecom JV has signed the GPRS/MMS roaming agreement with 100 network operators from 49 countries around the world.

The number of subscribers exceeds 2.8mln. The company covers 78% of the territory and 99% of the population of Azerbaijan with its mobile communications network. The company has roaming agreements with 300 operators.

Azercell JSC was established on 19 January 1996 by Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri AS and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Telecommunications.

Azercell Telekom is a joint venture of the Azerbaijani Telecommunications and IT Ministry (35.7%) and Fintur Holdings BV (64.3 %), with 58.55% belonging to TeliaSonera and 41.45% to Turkcell.
