Testing of First Segment of AzDatacom Network in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The laying of the first segmwent of a backbone network broadcast of national information AzDatacom, which covers Sumgayit and Absheron regions was completed, Rufat Gulmammadov, the head of the Information Community Development Department of the Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry, said.

"The Automatic telephone exchange of these regions is interconnected at 10 GB per second channels," Gulmammadov said. According to Gulmammadov, the system is being tested and is planned to be put it into commission in the near future. The tariffs to use the system have been developed.

Simultaneously equipment to increase the existing network from 1 GB per second to 10 GB per second is being installed. The key goal of the project is to develop the broadband Internet in the country creating all necessary infrastructures.

Work over establishing AzDatacom is carried out in two stages; the first stage covers Baku and the second covers other regions and cities of Azerbaijan. Firstly, the network is laid in regions where fibre-optic lines exist

The project is carried out under the technical assistance program "National E-Governance Network Initiative" realized jointly with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications & Information Technology and United Nations Development Program, and is one of the measures included in the State Program for Development of Information & Communication Technology in Azerbaijan (E-Azerbaijan) in 2004-2008.
