Azerpocht to Render Financial Bank Services in First Quarter of 2008

Azerbaijan, Babayeva / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The Azerpocht state enterprise will begin to render financial bank services according to the plan of a development project for financial services, to be implemented jointly with the World Bank (WB) in the first quarter of 2008, said Novruz Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Communication and IT Minister.

"The project, to be implemented within two years, is currently at an important stage," the Minister said.

Mammadov said a tender will be announced on the project, which will require software that includes connection from the local net of the company to internal and foreign information systems. The winner of the tender should provide assistance to Azerpocht in the testing of the program, the implementation of trainings for accountants, and should also provide equipment for the Communication and IT Ministry, among others.

Selection of the tender winner will be made after several stages, depending on the number of applicants. The World Bank also must approve the tender winner. Additionally, Azerpocht must receive a license from the National Bank of Azerbaijan.

The cost of the project is projected to be $17.5mln. The World Bank will allocate $12.25mln, and the remaining cost will be covered by the Azerbaijani Government.
