Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry Develop Electronic State Program

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The development of a communication and IT program of Azerbaijan in the future will be included in the new state program, Rufat Gulmammadov, the head of the Development of Informative Community Department at the Communication Ministry, said on 7 January.

"There was a decision made to launch the development of the first variant of the state program for 2009-2012," Gulmammadov stated.

The previous and first state program was approved by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in October 2005. The program covered 2005-2008.

The program is aimed at the implementation of economic-structure reforms, modernization and extension of communication and information technologies, development and implementation projects for an informative community.

According to Gulmammadov, a Task Group will be formed in January. The Task Group will develop the state program project. The program will be developed within three months.

Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Communication and IT Minister, said that implementation of the state program for 2005-2008 had been implemented successfully.

There is need to expand the telecommunication infrastructure twice over by the end of 2009, as well as establish a regional innovation zone.
