Proper Orbital Communication Satellite will Create Condition for Mutual Integration of Azerbaijan and Europe – Expert

Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 January / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The project developed by the Azerbaijani State, concerning the launch of the national orbital communication AzerSat satellite, will create the condition for the mutual integration with Europe, Rasim Aliguliyev, the director of the Information Technology Institute of Azerbaijani Nastional Science Academy, believes. "The project will create the huge prosperous for the specialists in all spheres," Aliguliyev said.

The Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry stated about the intension to launch the national satellite, which stated in 2006. An orbital space was promised for the Azerbaijani satellite, during the World Conference on Radio Communication of International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in 2006. ITU may allocate the planed orbital space to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2008.

The Ministry stated that ITU may allocate the plan space to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2008. It may take more time in receiving the non-plan space. The difference between plan and non-plan area is that the plan area limits the broadcasting within the boundaries of the country, but the non-plan area enables more broad broadcasting and may cover the other foreign countries. "The project will be self-supporting and meet invested funds," Aliguliyev said.

The final decision of the Azerbaijani State on the implementation of the AzerSat project is expected, during the first quarter of 2008. Five proposals were submitted to Azerbaijan including the technical and economic aspects for implementation of the project. At the initial stage the project will be financed by the state funds, later it will be self-supporting.

One fourth or one third resources of the satellite will be utilized by Azerbaijan and the rest capacity is planned to be give to the other countries, which the satellite covers. The cost of the project totals $80-100mln.
