Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 April / Trend corr S. Babayeva/ With Turkey's assistance Azerbaijan plans to commence money transfers with 20 European countries via EUROGIRO international payment system by the end of the year, Novruz Mammadov, the head of the Postal Sector of the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry, said on 9 April.

"The initial agreement was achieved during the recent visit of the Turkish postal specialists," he said.

Another issue which was discussed with Turkey's postal delegation (T.C. Posta ve Telgraf Teshkilati Genel Mudurlugu - PTT) was on-line postal electronic money transfers amongst the countries.

At present, money transfers are operated only through fax and the Ministry says that it is very uncomfortable.

Besides Turkey, Azerbaijan's postal administration also implements money transfers with Georgia.

According to Mammadov, the sides can commence introduction of on-line postal operations in the second half of this year, if there is no technical problems.

Azerbaijan introduced money transfer via the International Finance System of the Universal Postal Union (MTF/STEFI) with Russia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, UAE, and is expected to operate the system also with France, Estonia and Central Asia. As Turkey does not operate the system, cooperation with Azerbaijan is impossible. In its turn, Azerbaijan cannot implement the operations with the EUROGIRO countries.
