Court Postpones Verdict on Suit Filed by Maltese FIMbank against Azerbaijani Government

Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 June / corr. Trend S. Babayeva/ The court of Rotterdam postponed the verdict on the financial suit of the Maltese FIMbank against the Azerbaijani government whose interest are protected by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Bakhtiyar Mammadov, head of the Personnel and Law Department of the Ministry, the verdict which was to be brought in June has been postponed till December.

"They [court] attribute it to the complication of the suit and a need for extra time to examine the case," he said.

The Ministry submitted necessary documents to the court including the most important, the verdict of the French court in favor of Azerbaijan.

The Maltese FIMbank (First International Merchant Bank Ltd.) filed a suit against the Azerbaijani government to repay loans worth $4.5mln which the bank claims to have granted to the telecommunication companies under government guarantee. The Bank filed the first suit in July 2004 in the courts of Rotterdam and Paris.
