Talks on Communication Cable Laying with Turkmenistan to be Held in Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 October / Trend corr. S.Babayeva /A delegation from Turkmenistan is expected to come to Baku in November. The delegation will hold discussions on the possible participation in the projct to lay the Caspian segment of fiberoptic cable Trans-Asia-Europe highway.

Earlier, the talks on the issue were held with Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

If the sides will agree, the highway will be laid both in the direction of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

A protocol has been signed within the project between the Azerbaijani International Communication and Accounting Centre attached to the Communication Ministry and Kazakh KazTransCom. Under the document, 50% of expenditures will be covered by Azerbaijan and 50% by Kazakhstan.

According to KazTransCom, in the end of May, KazTransCom, Aztelecom and Axiom companies met to sign a protocol for the future.

The routeїs length between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is about 380km. At present, the current route is running via Turkmenistan and Iran, passing the territory of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani Communication Ministry considers that implementation of the project will lead to cut of the route almost by 2,000km that will accelerate communication traffic.
