Azerbaijan to Negotiate with Malaysian Operator to Acquire Orbital Position for its Satellite

Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 November / Trend corr. S.Babayeva/ Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Communications and IT Iltimas Mammadov and his accompanying delegation have been visiting Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia since 24 November, the office said.

"The purpose of the visit is to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries," the office said.

The delegation will negotiate with Malaysian MEASAT operator to acquire an orbital position, as well as to exchange experience of launching satellite to the orbit and of selecting carrier rocket.

The visit will end on 28 November.

The cost of the project on launching AzerSat - Azerbaijan's communication satellite, is about $200mln. The coverage area of the satellite is expected to include Europe and a part of Asia - Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.

The Ministry believes the satellite may be launched as soon as 2010. Operation period of AzerSat is 18-19 years.
