Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 8 / Trend , R.Abbasov/

"Estonia and Azerbaijan can implement mutually beneficial cooperation in the telecommunication and IT spheres," Estonia's President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said in his interview for Trend .

"Estonia believes that the state and its information system must be developed as a whole, the information system must support the daily functioning of the state in the best possible way, and proceed from the interests of our population, our entrepreneurs and others who come into contact with the state," Ilves said.

Estonia has had remarkable results in that field, including some unprecedented and the most original solutions in the world.

Take, for instance, the data transport layer X-tee (X-road) that covers entire Estonia, the electronic tax administration, e-police, and the unique system of e-elections, or the ID-card solution that virtually every Estonian is carrying in his or her pocket.

In 2007, Estonian businessmen founded the Laboratory of e-government organization with an aim to create the best e-governance methods.

"I am certain that co-operation between the enterprises of Estonia and Azerbaijan is going to be mutually beneficial," Ilves said.
