Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 31 / Trend , S.Babayeva/
People's Computer project in Azerbaijan will first target country's regions, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology said.
"The working group on the project has recently met. We discussed and specified the terms and stages of the realization of the project," the office said.
The core of the project is providing poor layers of the population with computers for long-term credit and at low interest rates. A special working group involving Intel and Microsoft was formed at the Ministry to implement the project. Microsoft will provide authorized software and Intel - adequate hardware on preferential terms.
School teachers in country's regions will be provided with computers first, because regions need computers more than the capital city, the office said.
The ministry did not divulge terms and time of realization of the project, as several organizing issues are still to be solved.
Earlier Azerbaijani Minister for Communications and IT Ali Abbasov said that the project will be launched in 2009.
According to the Communications Ministry's estimate, there are 3-4 computers for every 100 people in Azerbaijan provided. In case the project is successfully implemented, the number of computers will be increased fivefold.
