Number of wide-band internet (ADSL) subscribers will considerably increase in Azerbaijan within one or two years, the Azerbaijani Communication & IT Ministry Information Society Development Department Rufat Gulmammadov said on Feb. 11.
"Despite majority part of dial-up connections in the country, recently number of ADSL subscribers has increased by 12 times and at present their number reaches 45,000. This tendency testifies their potential growth in future," Gulmammadov said.
Gulmammadov said that ADSL subscribers will increase due to price cut by 2.5 times.
At present one megabit of unlimited Internet-channel is 30-55 manats.
Tariffs on wide-band internet are on the average level in Azerbaijan. However, the prices may be lower given the business activity and economic development of the country, Communication and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said earlier.
Some 95 percent of the country's providers fulfilled the IT Ministry's decision on price cut.
There are over 30 internet provider companies in Azerbaijan, while the number of internet users is over 1 million people.
