The number of Internet users totaled 2.46 million people in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Agency on Communication and Information (UzACI) told Trend . According to UzACI, 87 users of Internet network fell on each 1,000 citizens.
The meeting of UzACI staff dedicated to results of work for 2008 and determination of prospects and directions of activity for 2009 was held in Tashkent. Presently, operations on modernization of the Uzbek governmental portal in Internet network are being conducted in Uzbekistan, Director General of UzACI Abdulla Aripov's report says.
The modernization is being conducted given G2C module ("Nation - to the citizen"), G2B module ("Nation - to the entrepreneur") and G2C ("Nation - to the foreign citizen"). "The introduction of these modules at the governmental portal will allow broad access for citizens and business-communities to the state interactive services," Aripov said.
The national information retrieval system www.uz is being modernized. Summary statistics reflecting dynamics of Internet development in Uzbekistan is realized in the system. Statistics of all national websites visiting, setting www.uz, demonstrates that as of Feb. 1 this figure totals more than 14 million visits per month.
As of Jan. 1, 2009, total number of collective use points makes up 872. Total speed of the international information network use reached 825 Mbit/s. According to UzACI, this figure totaled 362 Mbit/s in 2007 but 231 Mbit/s in 2006.
Presently, the number of domains registered in uz totals 7,681. According to statistics, this figure totaled 6,000 domains as of early 2008 (increase 26.7 percent).
