Growth in communication services in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic

In Jan.-Apr. 2009, communication services worth 7.1 million manat were rendered in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a rise of 26.7 percent from the same period of 2008, the NAR representative office in Baku said.

About 84 percent or 7.6 million manat of the services were provided by private companies, a rise of 36 percent.

The ANR Communication Ministry rendered communication services worth 1.4 million manat and offered 944 units of telephones lines.

Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan lies to the west of the country. It borders on with Armenia in north and east and with Turkey and Iran in west and south. The total area of NAR is 5,500 sq m with a population of over 360,000. The capital city is Nakhchivan.
