Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov went on a working visit to New York, the Ministry said.

"The main purpose of the visit is to obtain UN support for the project on construction of transnational Eurasian super-information line," the same source said.

The aim of the project is to create a powerful information infrastructure in order to get an access to low-cost and high quality Internet broadband services for the development of online information networks and online markets.

During the visit, there are plans to hold extensive presentations and briefings of Abbasov at the UN headquarters, also meetings with the ambassadors of UN member countries.

Azerbaijan's Communications Ministry has recently conducted an extensive presentation of the project for the ambassadors from 20 countries in the country. The Ministry considers that the project will enable the participant countries to develop not only information technology, but also the social sector and other spheres of the economy.

Experts believe that for the implementation of the project firstly a single management structure should be established, all interested countries should take part in the development of a unified strategy to establish a network to regulate tariffs.

The cost of the project has not yet been determined. The initiator of the project is the Government of Azerbaijan and the U.S. Department for Trade and Development.
