The Geological Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences prepares the fourth state program on the study the Caspian Sea using space technologies, Deputy Director of the Geological Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, Ibrahim Guliyev, told Trend .
Guliyev said that the Geological Institute intends to cooperate with SOCAR and the Institute of Space Research of the Defense Ministry in a new program.
At present, the monitoring of waters flowing into the Caspian Sea is conducted by SOCAR with the help of vessels. Modern methods envisage monitoring by means of satellite.
Guliyev said that operations on the development of the new program will be completed in September. Afterwards, it will be submitted for government consideration.
At present, scientists are working on three programs; creating a model of the hydrocarbon resources of the Caspian Sea, preserving geological-inherited factors and resources for their hand-over to future generations and carrying out practical work on Azerbaijani deposits. This work will allow the development and use of both mine and non-mine deposits.
