Azerbaijan, Baku, August 28 / Trend G. Veliyev /

Successful implementation of the project to construct high-speed cable pipeline from Turkey to Azerbaijan will rather reduce the cost of Internet services in Azerbaijan and increase the amount of traffic in Azerbaijan, Head of the Research Center for Information, Yashar Hajiyev, told Trend .

At present, the project is under discussion. Its implementation can cause a boom on the Internet market in Azerbaijan.

Hajiyev said that there are two options to lay the cable line. It will be either implemented in parallel within the project of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars construction, or be a separate project.

This project could bring big dividends to all parties. Today, Azerbaijan gets traffic via two optical lines, which run through Russia, as well as European countries. The cost of international traffic compared to European countries, located on international main lines (tariffs are very low there), is rather expensive for Azerbaijan.

"The projects implemented in the telecommunication sphere, as in other spheres, are being discussed for a long time and carefully analyzed. They will be realized after they find a political solution.

Regarding with technical side of the project, it is not so complicated. Azerbaijan is able to solve all technical issues rapidly. If this project is solved, Azerbaijan will get one of the strongest lines. It will give great prospects for the Republic. The project will be also useful for Georgia which gets international traffic via Azerbaijan, Hajiyev said.

The projects to lay optical lines in the direction of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are also important. Today, certain agreements concerning construction of the Caspian segment of fiber-optic cable line between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have been reached. The instructions have been given to the corresponding agencies of two countries and the project has been included in the protocol of inter-state commission. Bilateral talks on the project were intensified after the last visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Turkmenistan. The Turkmen side treats the project carefully because the status of the Caspian Sea is not resolved yet.

Talks are being held with Kazakhstan parallel with Turkmenistan. There is a protocol signed between the Center for International Relations, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Telecommunication and Kazakh company KazTransCom. Financing of the project will be implemented upon this protocol.

Construction of the Trans-Caspian segment of TAE line between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan today is more advantageous now because it reduces the route, increases volume of exchanged traffic and has direct access to Kyrgyzstan and China.
