Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 18 / corr Trend G.Veliyev /

Delta Telecom is repairing an optic line connecting Azerbaijan to the Backbone Network, Delta Telecom Technical Director Rahid Alekberli told Trend . The repairs began after an accident near Sumgayit.

"The incident occurred as a result of ongoing repairs near Sumgayit," he said. "However, there was no stalling as alternative channels immediately began functioning."

Traffic is held in four directions - to Turkey via Georgia and by subsea cable via Iran and Russia. Two channels head to the north. The first is in the direction of Sumgayit, Siyazan and Devechi. A second channel is the direction of Shamakhi, Guba and Russia.

Today almost one-third of the traffic is in north. After the accident, the incoming and outgoing traffic was redistributed via other channels, which prevented traffic stalls.

Alekberli said the number of leased international channels in Azerbaijan is three times lower than the real capacity of traffic delivered to the country.

Delta Telecom delivers the first line to Azerbaijan and sells the second line to providers. Only 3 MB per second of every 10 MB per second is sold. The remaining amount is in reserve.

The capacity of the AzNET segment is 30 GB per second, alhtough only 3 GB per second have been loaded so far.
