In 2009, the ICT revenues hit 13.7 percent in Azerbaijan, Communication and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said in a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the socio-economic developments in 2009, which was presided over by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev

The growth rate of Azerbaijani ICT was twice higher than the global growth rate of the ICT industry.

In 2009, the number of connections on the mobile operator market hit 1.1 million. About 85.6 mobile telephones fell to 100 people, which is higher by 25 percent than the average world index

In 2009, the major event in the mobile market was commissioning 3G technology.

In 2009, 90,000 new numbers was commissioned in the stationary telephone market. The Ministry intends to continue a project "100 telephoned to 100 families", which allows significantly increase stationary telephony rate  

The Ministry also took measures to develop Internet market in 2009. Internet access tariffs were reduced by five times in this period. Iran entered the traffic importers list in 2009.  

"Internet access rate increased by 40 percent and exceed twice the average world index," Abbasov added.

Abbasov also underscored the development of the computer market. The number of personal computers falling to 100 people increased by 50 percent compared to 2008   

At present work on the establishment of the center to provide digital signatures is nearing to completion. 

Some 62 new television transmitters were installed to improve quality of the television.

The Ministry noted significant growth on the satellite, cable and Internet television markets.

The Ministry implemented a test launch of digital television in Baku and Sumgayit. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has instructed all countries to implement a full transition to digital television by 2015. A full transition to digital television is envisaged in Azerbaijan in 2012, under the plan submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers

The minister also recalled the international support to realizing global projects, including construction of transnational super informational highways and regional innovation zones.
