Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 23 / Trend H. Valiyev /

HP supplied 2,500 terminal stations (Thin Client) as a part of a project on computerization of country schools in Azerbaijan, Sergey Plaksin, general manager of Personal Systems HP in CIS, said in an interview with the Azerbaijani engineering and technology magazine Info City.

This is the first project implemented by HP in the post-Soviet countries, which was carried out according to the agreement signed with the Azerbaijani Education Ministry.

President of Personal Systems Group believes that education is a priority in terms of development in sales solutions based on "thin clients", as the ratio of price and quality in this case is a major advantage for customers.

"The system, based on" thin clients", is more durable. The term of its usage in schools reaches 10 years, while systems based on personal computers are designed for up to five years," he said.

Today there is a steady demand for these devices by banks and mobile network operators. Presently supply of 1,600 units of "thin clients" and 95 HP ProLiant servers was carried out by HP in the State Social Protection Fund of Azerbaijan, Plaksin said.

With regard to the portable computers market, the productive market structure is changing in favor of mobility and for the last two years portable computer sales have increased significantly, he said.

"Despite the fact that today notebook sales, compared with desktop PCs, are more than 50 percent, desktop computers will remain in demand among home users, who purchase a computer for the first time because this choice is more natural for them. Desktop segment will also remain strong enough in a corporate environment. Therefore, on the background of growing demand for mobile solutions, the role of desktop systems and systems based on "thin clients" will be significant," he said.

Presently, desktop computers are produced mostly by local enterprises, whilst notebooks by vendors with a worldwide reputation. During the next three years there will be substantial changes that will lead to a change of the market favorites. At the current rate of price decrease, the major desktop computer market players will become the large-scale international vendors in 2012.
