Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct.4 / Trend H.Valiyev /

Azerbaijan and Georgia have agreed on the procedure of the use of GSM and CDMA-communication radio frequency spectrum in border areas, the chief engineer of the State Radio Frequencies Administration, Ilham Efendiyev, has told Trend.

Efendiyev said the sides have developed a protocol, which is expected to be signed after the review of the document by both parties.

The agreement will streamline the use of radio spectrum and substantially reduce the likelihood of interference of radio resources on the border areas

The parties paid attention to the harmonization of principles and criteria for equitable use of the frequency spectrum of 1,800 and 900 MHz for GSM communication and the frequency of 800 MHz used to provide wireless service CDMA.

"Today, the Georgian and Azerbaijani sides use the same base station and same frequency resources, which creates interference to each other. The parties agreed to equally divide 124 channels in the frequency band 900 MHz used in GSM standard. Each party will use 60 channels, and the other four channels will be equally used as a backup band," Efendiyev said.

The channels between the CDMA-operators are distributed similarly, where the Georgian and Azerbaijani sides divided the seven channels. The three channels will be used by Azerbaijan and three channels - Georgia and one channel will be a reserve. Depending on location, he said, the number of channels used by the Azerbaijani GSM-operators (frequency bands of 900 and 1800 MHz) varies from 20 to 41 units. A small number of channels fell to the cross-border territory.
