Azerbaijan’s representative to head UPU regional project on e-payments

Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry's Postal Department Head Novruz Mammadov has been appointed the head of the regional project on e-payments of the Universal Postal Union.

According to Mammadov, the corresponding contract certifying the appointment will be signed at the UPU autumn session in Bern, Switzerland on Nov. 10.

Mammadov will deal with the involvement of other countries to joining the STEFI system (Secured Transfer of Electronic Financial Information), the expansion of e-mail services in other countries, integration of the systems STEFI and Eurogiro and organization of postal services trade.

"The integration of two systems would allow countries that use the STEFI system, including Azerbaijan, to establish forwarding of remittances in the Eurogiro system. We are working on introduction of services of urgent money transfers between Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Since December, we plan to put into operation a new service of urgent money transfers that will enable to carry out remittances within 3 hours. By the reported date we hope to be able to introduce the service along with Ukraine and Belarus," he said.

Regarding the postal services trade, Mammadov said the service is represented in many countries, and its implementation is expected to be also carried out in Azerbaijan.

The main task of the post trade services is to provide payment of the purchased goods at post offices.
