The Regional Innovation Technologies Academy (RITA) has assisted 20 EU enterprises to conduct ICT research in cooperation with the Azerbaijani companies, RITA Director Tofig Babayev told Trend today.

He added that the work was carried out under the Extension of the Research Cooperation in ICT Project - EXTEND, which is being implemented in the EU, Eastern Europe and South Caucasus.

The project consists of four blocks and covers virtually all areas of the sciences.

The RITA acts as the project coordinator in Azerbaijan.

The project is implemented in Azerbaijan in the framework of the EU's seventh research and technological development program, which will be completed in July 2011.

The project is implemented in Azerbaijan under the "cooperation block," which is divided into 10 directions. ICT is a priority field in the program.

The project started in January 2009 and will end in July 2011.

Its main goal is to promote cooperation between local enterprises and EU research enterprises.

"Today, the main directions of the ICT research were defined for the South Caucasus, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine covering 2010-2015," he said. "Referring to ICT, 30 areas were defined covering healthcare, the space industry, nanotechnology, and education. We are holding a survey among experts and giving them information about the project. We were able to facilitate cooperation between Azerbaijani enterprises operating in the ICT field and 20 EU research facilities."
