Azerbaijani mobile operator’s investments exceed $100 million

The investment volume of the Azerbaijani Azercell Telekom mobile operator amounted to $108.2 million in 2010, Corporate Affairs and Social Responsibility Department Chief Ulviyya Hassanzadeh said at a press conference today.

Hassanzadeh said the company's total investment over the 14 years of its activity in Azerbaijan has amounted to about $1 billion.

Last year, the company transferred taxes in the amount of $114.6 million to the state budget and the figure has reached $868.2 million over 14 years.

The volume of the company's investments in social projects in 2010 amounted to approximately $1.4 million. Over 14 years, the figure reached $14.7 million.


Today, Azercell occupies 54.6 percent of the mobile communications market in Azerbaijan. The operator's network coverage is 80 percent. In late 2010, the number of subscribers exceeded 4.2 million. The subscriber base increased by 300,000 over last year.

In 2010, the company built 170 base stations, whose total number has reached 1,794 units.

The number of roaming partners has reached 406 units.
