Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 19 / Trend H.Valiyev/
Azerbaijan is expected to adopt the final document regulating the procedure for issuing biometric passports to citizens, the National Population Register under the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry told Trend on Saturday.
Issuance of the new generation passports will be launched by late 2012. Samples of biometric passports will be manufactured by the Swiss company Trub AG.
Trub AG has launched activities to provide Azerbaijan with comprehensive consultations and project management services to develop and implement a comprehensive system of issuing biometric passports in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization standards.
Azerbaijan's biometric passports will have a polycarbonate page containing an integrated contactless chip. The pages will be optically personalized by laser engraving and contain a variety of integrated security features. The polycarbonate data pages are designed for 10 years.
The company will design and build about 12 personalization centers, which will be responsible for issuing passports. For this purpose, the company will also supply laser machines and Trackstar software. Trackstar is an effective solution designed by Trub AG to personalize and manage identity documents.
Trub AG is also responsible for the long-term prospect of ensuring the maintenance and support of the implemented solutions. The company will support the Azerbaijani authorities during the entire process of becoming familiar with the new identity documents, as well as data collection using Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). PKI systems will be used to create national certification to protect the confidential information contained on the chip.
