The Broadband Commission for Digital Development calls on all governments to develop and implement the national multi-sectoral development plans of broadband Internet access, according to a report made after the third committee meeting, held in Paris on June 5-6, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry said .

Azerbaijan is represented by the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, who is a member of the commission.

The report "Broadband: A Platform for Progress" stressed the need to coordinate the development of broadband at the national level in order to promote competition on the basis of technical means, policy, etc.

The e fforts must be coordinated at the level of all industry sectors, the government and the country.

The report covers arguments in favor of broadband as one of the factors stimulating economic growth and new jobs. Broadband networks become an important element. They play an important role in such sectors as health, education, environment, etc.

C ommission members also stressed the need to bring broadband connection to the world's poorest countries. They expressed concern about the situation in Africa, where prices remain high and only one out of 10 people use the Internet.
