Azerbaijan, Baku, June 8 / Trend A.Akhundov /

Azerbaijan's mobile operator Azercell Telekom Ltd. is technically ready to introduce number portability service, spokesman Fakhri Abbasov told Trend.

"A legal base and operators' technical readiness is needed to introduce this service," Abbasov said.

"This is a good international experience, which provides subscribers with more rights. Its introduction affects the market. Subscribers will be more selective, and I think that people appreciating quality and continuity of mobile communications will make decisions depending on situation," Abbasov said.

Abbasov said Azercell's share of the mobile communication market hits 55 percent.

The Communications and IT Ministry has prepared rules to introduce MNP services and developed relevant rules to form a legal framework, which reflects the experience of countries already use this service.

The ministry has also coordinated rules to introduce MNP service with all GSM operators operating in the country.

The ministry's work on the project is expected to be completed soon, after which operators should address a number of technical issues to prepare infrastructure for using this service.
