Bakcell intends to launch 4G network in Azerbaijan in 2013

According to the year totals, the subscriber base of Azerbaijani mobile operator Bakcell grew by 15 per cent in 2012, head of Bakcell Richard Shearer said at a his company’s press conference in Baku.

According to the year totals, the subscriber base of Azerbaijani mobile operator Bakcell grew by 15 per cent in 2012, head of Bakcell Richard Shearer said at a his company's press conference in Baku.

He said today 40 per cent of the mobile internet market belongs to Bakcell. The number of base stations involved in the company's network is more than 2000.

Today, the company's network covers more than 99 per cent of the population and 92 per cent of the country's territory.

Bakcell's share in the Azerbaijani mobile communications market is 35 per cent with the number of active subscribers exceeding 2.6 million. The total number of registered subscriber numbers stands at three million.

"We are currently in negotiations with the Communications and Information Technologies Ministry on deployment of 4G network and launch of mobile number portability service (MNP), the introduction of which is expected this year," Shearer said.
