Japanese NEC Corporation has received an invitation to participate in the tender for the construction of the second telecommunications satellite of Azerbaijan "Azerspace-2", the CEO of NEC Corporation in Europe, Middle East and Africa Masahiro Ikeno told journalists on Feb.13.

The launch of the second telecommunications satellite of Azerbaijan "Azerspace-2" into orbit is scheduled for 2017. The second telecommunications satellite of Azerbaijan will also be designated to provide digital broadcasting, Internet access, data transmission, creation of multi-service networks VSAT and so on.

The second satellite program in Azerbaijan will be purely commercial.

"The corporation will give the final answer after assessing their capabilities to participate in this project," he said.

"NEC Corporation has a number of technologies in the field of network infrastructure and is known worldwide for its solutions and services," Ikeno said.

"Along with telecommunication systems, the corporation has also a production capacity of satellite systems," he said. "During the next two days we will consider the prospects for cooperation in many areas and define further priorities."

The CEO of the cooperation noted that Azerbaijan's economy is one of the fastest growing in the world.

Touching upon the issue of organizing production of tablet computers in Azerbaijan, he said that this area has certain specificities.

"Before establishment of such production, it is necessary first to estimate its contribution to society," Ikeno said.

Plans for the production of tablet PCs under its own brand were recently announced by the Azerbaijani plant on production of computer equipment "KUR".

The KUR plant is a joint venture between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan and IT-company "Sinam". KUR was established in 2005 and is the only manufacturing company engaged in assembly-line production of computer hardware and electronics in the South Caucasus.
