State operator of communication of Azerbaijan Aztelekom LTD curtails service of voice communication upon internet network AztelPhone (Sip-telephony), a source from telecommunication industry told Trend.
Commercial sales of service has been ceased, and only few number of users use this service now.
“The service will completely stop as soon as all the remaining subscribers stop using it,” the source added.
AztelPhone service was launched in mid-2015. A subscriber needs to install a relevant application on mobile device to get a connection.
The advantage of AztelPhone was the ability of hooking fixed telephone number to smartphone which allowed subscribes to substantially reduce costs on international communication and roaming. Calls were made over subscriber account upon internet network. Subscription fee for the service was 20 AZN and it cost 0.05 AZN per minute.
This year AztelPhone plans to introduce a new service enabling for fixed number transfer, available on mobile application as well. A subscriber will be able to receive and make calls over internet from their home phone by registering his/her number in application.
Official rate for 19th of January is 1.7001 AZN/USD.
