Aztelekom Ltd., the state communications operator of Azerbaijan, has launched the commercial sale of fixed wireless broadband internet services based on LTE technology, a source in the country's telecommunications market told Trend.

The commercial fixed wireless broadband internet service has been deployed in the Khachmaz district. As for tariffs for the LTE services, they correspond to the current tariffs of Aztelekom for the ADSL services, the source said.

The company plans to expand the network coverage in other settlements, mostly in the hard-to-reach ones, where the cable laying is unprofitable.

Within the broadband access development project in the Khachmaz district, the operator replaced the TDM telephone exchanges with more modern MSAN telephone exchanges. The rural old automatic telephone exchanges are being transferred to the NGN standard.

Following the upgrade, it is planned to move to GPON technology that will allow the operator to bring the optical line to the subscribers' houses and increase the internet access speed to 100 megabits and more.

This, in turn, will allow to simultaneously provide the subscriber three services (internet, telephony and TV).
