The launches of student satellites within the CanSat Azerbaijan competition have been scheduled for September 15, the National Aviation Academy of Azerbaijan told Trend.

Some 10 teams from seven higher educational institutions of the country will be represented in the finals of the competition. The finished microsatellites will undergo final test for compliance with the required standards before launch.

The team that wins the local CanSat competition will be eligible to apply for the international CanSat competition.

CanSat is an innovative scientific and educational project dedicated to launch of student satellites. CanSat is a functional model of microsatellite weighing up to 350 grams. When lowering to a height of 400 meters the "satellite" is separated from the container and glides down for two minutes.

During the gliding flight, the measurement of altitude, wind speed, air parameters (temperature, pressure and composition) is carried out, and the ground-controlled photographic surveying is conducted. The received flight and atmospheric data are sent to the ground station running on the software developed by the team.

The international CanSat competition held annually in the USA at Tarleton State University in Stephenville city (state of Texas). Azerbaijan was represented in this competition for the first time by NaaSAT team in mid-2016, taking 31st place among the 40 participating teams. In 2017, the team took 13th place.
