Azerbaijan's Azerspace-2 / Intelsat 38 telecommunications satellite will reach its target orbit of 45 degrees east longitude in the coming months, a source on the country's telecommunications market told Trend.

Once the spacecraft reaches orbit, it will be placed under the management of "Azercosmos" OJSC. According to preliminary data, the satellite resources will be put into commercial operation in January 2019.

The Azerbaijani Azerspace-2 satellite has been launched into orbit from the ELA-3 launch complex of the Guiana space center by the Ariane 5 launch vehicle of the French Arianespace company.

Azerspace 2/Intelsat 38 is designed to provide a number of telecommunication services. The Azerspace-2 satellite’s service area will cover the countries of Europe, Central and South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

The main satellite control center is on the 37th kilometer of the Baku-Shamakhi highway, and the reserve is in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (Nahajir village of the Julfa district of NAR).

The satellite control systems operate continuously seven days a week and 24 hours a day.

The specialists of "Azercosmos" OJSC monitor the operational status of the Azerspace-1 satellite so that it would not deviate from the established orbital position, if necessary, send commands to the satellite, make the necessary changes in the configuration of the telecommunications equipment installed on the satellite.

Azerbaijan's first telecommunication satellite Azerspace/Africasat 1a was launched into geostationary orbit on Feb. 8, 2013. The satellite was launched from the Kourou space base by Arianespace.
