Azerbaijani mobile operator Bakcell LLC has applied to obtain frequencies in order to deploy 5G network in the future, the company told Trend.

Deployment of 5G is included in Bakcell's long-term plans and will not happen earlier than 2022, the company noted.

"Frequencies are one of the important components in the deployment of the fifth generation network, and the state can support their equitable distribution among market participants. Another important aspect for appearance of 5G is the presence of an extensive fiber-optic infrastructure in the country. Bakcell is ready to support all state initiatives to improve the fiber-optic network to prepare for transition to 5G," the company said.

For the first time, the operator presented the 5G readiness and 4.5G Pro as part of last year’s telecommunications exhibition, Bakutel 2017.

The company demonstrated to the visitors the capabilities of 4.5G Pro and the data transfer speed reaching one gigabit per second. Presently, the 4.5G Bakcell network is already deployed in some parts of Baku.
