Beeline Uzbekistan intends to focus on strengthening the position of the leading mobile operator in providing mobile internet, digital and content services, Madina Ruzmatova, PR adviser to the Uzbek company, told Trend.

According to her, the company has successfully consolidated its position in the market, and plans to focus on the qualitative improvement of its performance.

“Beeline’s priority is to remain the leader not only in the number of subscribers, but also in the quality of the services. We clearly realize that year after year more and more subscribers get online, and the whole world is moving to the digital space. That is why it is important for us to make mobile Internet, data traffic and digital services available to all citizens of Uzbekistan at the best prices and with high speed,” Ruzmatova said.

The company representative underlined that Beeline is currently the largest mobile operator in Uzbekistan. As of Jan. 1, 2018, the subscriber base of the mobile operator grew to almost 10 million users, which is over 40 percent of the total number of mobile subscribers in the country (22.8 million according to the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications Development of Uzbekistan).

“We were the first to announce the commercial launch of the 4G (LTE) network in 2014. We held the first public testing of 5G technology as part of the MobiCon 2018. We will continue to work on expanding the 4G network (we built almost 550 LTE generation base stations in the 1H2018), and will also significantly improve the speed and quality of mobile communications in the 3G network,” Ruzmatova said.

According to her, Beeline, being the largest cellular company in the market, continues to expand its investment portfolio in Uzbekistan and increase mobile coverage in the country, including hard-to-reach, sparsely populated areas.

A company representative added that over 140 base stations with support for GSM and UMTS technologies were allocated for this purpose.

Unitel began operations in the market of Uzbekistan on Sept. 25, 1997. From Sept. 12, 2006, the company began to provide services under the brand name Beeline.

Unitel and Buzton (trademark Beeline) are part of the VEON Ltd. group of companies.

VEON (formerly VimpelCom Ltd) is a holding company controlling telecommunications assets in the CIS countries and in a number of countries in Asia and Africa.

The group includes the Russian mobile network operator Vympel-Communications, Ukrainian Kyivstar, cellular operators in a number of CIS countries (operating under the Beeline brand), Djezzy brand in Algeria, Banglalink in Bangladesh and Jazz in Pakistan. As of 2018, the holding serves 210 million customers worldwide. The largest shareholder of VEON is LetterOne, created by the owners of the Russian Alfa Group.
