Uzbekistan improves its broadband internet speed rating

Uzbekistan improved its position by one place in the updated rating of countries in terms of broadband wired internet speed for November 2018 and ranked 111th out of 126, Trend reports on Dec. 17 referring to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index report.

The download speed in Uzbekistan was 9.98 megabits per second, the upload speed – 9.74 Mbps.

For comparison, Kazakhstan ranked 60th in speed of wired internet (28.90 Mbps), Russia – 45th (43.82 Mbps), Kyrgyzstan – 82nd (19.49 Mbps).

In terms of mobile internet speed, the country also climbed two positions and ranked 108th out of 123. The download speed in Uzbekistan was 10.44 Mbps, and the upload speed – 4.64 Mbps.

Kazakhstan ranked 80th in terms of mobile internet speed (18.23 Mbps), Russia – 77th (18.43 Mbps), Kyrgyzstan – 100th (13.05 Mbps), Tajikistan – 123rd (4.8 Mbps).

Uzbektelecom earlier said that from Dec. 1, internet speed in Uzbekistan will increase by 10 times.

In early 2018, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to drastically reduce prices for internet access and also to increase the connection speed at least four times in 2018, bringing it to the level of the CIS countries by 2020.
