Deputy minister: Startups gaining popularity in high technologies in Azerbaijan(Exclusive)

Startups in the field of high technologies are becoming one of the most popular directions in Azerbaijan, Elmir Velizade, Azerbaijani deputy minister of transport, communications and high technologies, told Trend on Feb. 11.

“High technologies are at startups’ demand to implement ideas in implementation of projects,” he said.

"The creation of a High-Tech Park and the State Fund for Development of Information and Communication Technology enabled the start-ups to become the most popular direction in the high-tech industry,” Velizade added.

“It is obvious that the application of start-ups by using information technologies is very effective in the implementation of projects covering various spheres and yielding positive results,” he said. “The Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies is also working on a number of projects by using innovations, most of which are being implemented and completed."

He stressed that the process of introducing modern innovations by using startups in various fields has been launched.

"The scope of startups may be different,” Velizade added. “The possibility of information technologies is mainly used in the introduction of innovations.”

“The reform process, which continues in Azerbaijan in various fields, including the sphere of high technologies, yields only positive results,” he said. “Those who use modern technologies in business, management or production will certainly succeed."

Velizade stressed that high technologies, including information and communication technologies, play a key role in innovation, open up broad opportunities for the application of innovations in education, health care, agriculture, production, servicing, social and other spheres.

"The legislative base has been improved, industrial and technological parks were created, work is underway to expand the activity of technology parks, create new manufacturing enterprises in the sphere of high technologies to implement the innovative development model," Velizade said.

He stressed that the Business Incubation Center is operating in the High-Tech Park of the ministry to stimulate innovations. The start-up projects are being implemented in the Business Incubation Center.
