By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

As a result of the active work of National Communications Commission of Georgia, small and medium-sized telecom operators' expenses on the access to the wholesale Internet services market decreased by eight times, the commission told Trend.

“We are actively working to liberalize the fixed and mobile Internet market, and the Commission made revolutionary decisions in this direction. Liberalization of the fixed-line communications market is the most valid, effective and necessary condition for a competitive environment, ensuring the provision of high-quality telecommunication services to consumers in the field of electronic communications,” the commission stated.

Reportedly, the commission’s decisions are unprecedented. As a result of the taken measures, small and medium-sized telecom operators will develop and focus on improving the services provided to subscribers.

The commission noted that the decision is aimed at liberalizing the market and restoring growing competition for both small and medium-sized operators, with the ultimate goal to provide better services, safeguard the interests of users and increase the number of subscribers.

“The devaluation of the lari does not have a direct impact on our industry, but it may increase the costs of telecom operators, so there is a risk that they will recover these losses at the subscribers' expense," said the commission.

However, the Commission will consider all possible options in order to protect the interests of subscribers and make appropriate decisions.
