Azerbaijan improves ICT indicators in Global Innovation Index 2019

The results of Azerbaijan’s ICT indicators are presented in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2019 ranking, Trend reports referring to the GII.

Compared to last year's ranking, Azerbaijan improved its positions in the categories "Development of the domestic market", "Development of technologies and the knowledge economy" and "Creativity".

Azerbaijan also improved its positions in Export of ICT services by 17 points. The country lags behind by one point in Import of ICT services, ranking 42nd.

According to the "Use of ICT" and "Access to ICT", the country ranked 82nd and 69th respectively, which is lower than last year’s indicators.

Global Innovation Index 2019 is a joint publication of Cornell University (USA), INSEAD business school (France) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which covers 126 countries.

The rating is based on 82 indicators covering the potential, performance and framework conditions of innovation activities, which represent the above-listed seven groups-characteristics of innovative activity.

Azerbaijan ranked 84th in the index and this is two positions lower compared to the previous year. Azerbaijan's best result is the first place in the Investment sub-index of the Domestic Market Development category. Azerbaijan's ranking in the Protection of Minority Investors indicator is also very high - the second place, and the country ranked the ninth in the Ease of Starting a Business indicator. Also, the country ranked the 20th in the Ease of Obtaining Loans indicator of the Crediting sub-index of the same category.
