BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 7

By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

In accordance with the Azerbaijani law "On the protection of children from harmful information", new measures are being taken to restrict children's access internet, Osman Gunduz, president of the Azerbaijan Internet Forum, told Trend.

The providers must review all virtual information by using filtering systems in accordance with this law.

“In addition to the existing ones, new filtration systems are being developed,” Gunduz added. "Providers must ensure that children have safe internet at the request of parents. If the parents want, children are provided with an alternative resource with safe content.”

"Presently, there is a dilemma about whether to use public or private internet providers' funds for the implementation of this project,” the president of the forum said. “When using the finances of private providers, another important question arises. Will they increase the tariff for safe internet? This question still remains unresolved."

The educational institutions already use safe internet which is rendered by AzEduNet provider, exempted from the monthly subscription fee.

Azercell, Bakcell, ENGINET companies are implementing the Safe Internet project, in particular, through Azercell Kids and Bakcell Stars services within the activities aimed at protecting children from the negative impact of the internet.

The filtering system restricts access to 18 million websites from 90 groups that contain information considered harmful to children.

By purchasing “safe internet packages”, Bakcell subscribers will be able to protect their children from accessing websites containing adult content, violence, illegal or suspicious content, drug information and other unwanted content through web pages filtering.
