Azerbaijan to launch first QR-code payment project at LUKOIL fuel stations

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 10

By Nargiz Ismayilova – Trend:

Azerbaijan’s E-PUL payment service and VISA have announced launch of the first country-wide payment solution at the LUKOIL fuel stations based on QR-code technology, Samir Nasibov, CEO of PaySis LLC, the legal owner of the E-PUL system told Trend.

According to him, owing to this service the customer coming to refuel his car can make the payment and the fuel station’s operator can accept it without using POS terminal, thereby preventing physical contact, which is especially important amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the throughput grows many-fold.

"Although this service is underestimated and not very popular in Azerbaijan, the QR-payments provide quick and flexible payment solutions to trade and service enterprises, allowing them to instantly accept digital payments from customers without the need to invest in POS terminals,” he said.

“Today, we are proud of the opportunity, to be the first in Azerbaijan to present, together with LUKOIL and VISA transnational company this innovative QR-payment service to the customers, thus contributing to the further transition to a digital economy with less cash dependence," Nasibov noted.

He also noted that the customers will be able to easily pay for the cost of fuel using the E-PUL mobile application at Baku-based LUKOIL gas stations.

“To do so, it’s necessary to download the E-PUL application, sign in and attach the card to a secure mobile application and after the operator’s breaking the cash register receipt at the checkout counter, scan the QR code installed in the fuel column,” he said. “Then the application will display the amount for which the customer asked to refuel the car. The one-touch payment amount is automatically debited from his card. The payment data can be viewed by customers in the E-PUL application’s payment history, and a check on successful payment is also issued to the operator at the cash desk.”

“For LUKOIL, launching the project of QR payments is another step towards our customers. We are constantly looking for development opportunities, introducing innovative technologies to increase comfort and speed of service,” said the Director General of LUKOIL-Azerbaijan CSJC Zaur Jalilov. “Now the customers can pay for refueling their cars without leaving them at the LUKOIL gas stations, via the application downloaded in their smart phones. We are very pleased to bring closer the future without queues, a large stack of plastic cards and cash in cooperation with partners such as VISA and E-PUL, who are ready to offer innovative solutions and a flexible approach to such inventions."

"As a part of the project, the E-PUL platform together with VISA is launching an incentive campaign from June 10, 2020. Each E-PUL user who has paid for fuel costs with a VISA QR card receives a discount of 5 manat [$2.9] for the first payment of at least 10 manat [$5.8]," he added.
