By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

In the total volume of online payments on the Azerbaijani first online payment internet platform Hesab.az, an increase by 29 percent was observed from January through June 2020 compared to the same period of last year, Chairperson of the board of the company Naina Mehdiyeva said in an interview with Trend.

“An increase in the amount of transactions from January through June 2020 compared to the same period of last year amounted to five percent,” Mehdiyeva said.

“We observe a great increase in the number of the platform users in the first half of this year,” chairperson of the board added. “This can be explained by the functional innovations presented by Hesab.az in the first half of 2020 and loyalty programs.”

“There was a need to introduce additional online services as a result of taking a number of restrictive measures against the spread of the pandemic,” Mehdiyeva added.

“This has led to an increase in the number of transactions on online payments,” chairperson of the board added. “Online payments are also effective in terms of user safety. We have seen a twofold increase in the use of our mobile application compared to the beginning of this year.”

“There has been a great increase in the total turnover of transactions and payments in May and these figures continue to grow,” Mehdiyeva said. “For example, we see growth in the total online payment turnover by 30 percent and in transaction volume - by 11 percent in May 2020 compared to May 2019."

“These indicators testify that the users prefer to safely make their payments via the internet without leaving the house,” she added.

Hesab.az is one of the biggest and leading online payment websites in Azerbaijan. Since the development of this platform, there has been a positive growth, both financially and in the direction of demand for the services which are rendered and an increase in the number of users. Comparing the first quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2019, there was an increase in the total turnover of online payments by 27 percent and an increase in the number of transactions by 20 percent.
