IT Park Uzbekistan to develop local startup ecosystem

Those wishing to study IT specialties in the regions of Uzbekistan will receive a quality education, Jamila Khalibaeva, Head of Creative Department of IT Park Uzbekistan told Trend in an interview.

At the moment, IT Park is implementing projects aimed at developing a startup ecosystem. One of these projects is incubation centers at universities in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), which are necessary for the popularization and development of entrepreneurship among students and youth. To date, memorandums have been signed with 12 universities in Uzbekistan.

The incubation and acceleration program in various areas for student startups will launch in the fall of 2020. In the future, it is planned to open incubation centers in all universities of Uzbekistan.

Another project implemented by IT Park is the Startup Initiative (Fifth cycle). The project provides for a support program, which is a short-term intensive program to support the development of innovative ideas and start-up projects by youth and is aimed at accelerating the viability of innovative ideas, creating working products, testing business models, and developing innovative entrepreneurship skills among young people of Uzbekistan.

Projects were also implemented in the areas of robotics, e-sports as well as the creation of mobile applications to combat COVID-19, etc.

mGovAward project - is a mobile application developed by students for implementation in the public sector. The goal of the project is to improve the lives of citizens through the provision of public services in Uzbekistan through an efficient, transparent, and uninterrupted mobile application. The project is implemented jointly with the UAE government. The prize fund of the project amounted to one billion soums ($97,438).

One Million Uzbek Coders - is a project to provide the general population with the opportunity to learn free skills in the field of information technology in the Uzbek language.

COVID-19 CHALLENGE 2020 - is a competition for aspiring developers to find innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, co-hosted by UNDP (United Nations Development Program). The prize fund of the project amounted to 500 million soums ($48,633).

The list of projects implemented by IT Park also includes such projects as Open Data Challenge 2019, Ucell Mobile Challenge 2019, GAME JAM, SAP UP, Unbound Tashkent, Adrenaline Open Cyber Cup Tournament, etc.

IT Park also hosts the "Future Skills" IT Olympiad in mobile robotics and engineering design. This is the first large-scale Olympiad, which is aimed at the selection and encouragement of talented youth, the formation of the national team of Uzbekistan to represent the country in the international arena in Shanghai in 2021.

A hybrid format is envisaged for organizing the event, as well as online qualification and the final stage in a full-time format. At the moment, more than 100 teams have been registered. Registration will last until September 1, 2020. The organizers of the IT Olympiad were the Ministry of Information Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, IT Park, Artel Group, and RevoTech.

Furthermore, IT Park contributes to the development through the creation of laboratories with sets of Arduino, Lego MS, Studica kits in every district and city of Uzbekistan.

Moreover, the IT Park Academy is launching a new line of distance learning courses that differ from those on the IT education market and will be available throughout Uzbekistan. Those wishing to study IT specializations in the regions will also be able to receive a quality education.

“We strive to provide relevant skills that are necessary for successful employment in the IT-sphere. This is one of those aspects on which we place great emphasis. The pandemic made it clear that the opportunity to work remotely needs to be used in the 21st century,” said Jamilya Khalibayeva, head of the creative department at IT Park.

Also, the IT-academy plans to launch a new BootCamp training format, which will train specialists at an intensive pace, as well as be distinguished by a high quality of education and skills.
