Karabakh can become leading IT Hub in South Caucasus, says Azerbaijani analyst

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 4

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Azerbaijan has great potential for the development of economic, social, and public processes in a digital format, Ilgar Aliyev, an expert-analyst at The Prime Consulting & Management, told Trend in an interview.

“Our country is one of the first countries in the world to introduce online platforms for tracking and servicing public services of its citizens amid the coronavirus pandemic,” said Aliyev.

“Within the ‘Electronic Government’ state project, in a short period of time, the pandemic-related platform (koronavirus.az) was created, and a special portal (e-sosial.az) was found to fulfill social tasks. All the processes of interaction between the state bodies of Azerbaijan and its population were carried out online, and this trend continues to develop today,” said the expert.

“Our country has a huge potential for the development of the cybersecurity industry, there is the possibility of creating a special structure for supporting IT systems both in the region and at the global level. Moreover, Azerbaijan has an opportunity for creating a center for the development of software and technical solutions,” said Aliyev.

He also noted that there are projects in Azerbaijan that are based on implementation over a long period of time: the development of equipment, robots, and artificial intelligence projects.

“President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in his addresses to the people spoke about development plans in the liberated territories, in connection with which we revised our plans,” said the analyst.

He noted that the main development sector in the liberated territories will be the ICT sector itself, as well as the construction of new IT infrastructure.

“The new infrastructure must be reliable and resilient. This infrastructure should serve as a base for economic industries, ministries of health and education, tourism and other sectors in need of IT services,” he added.

Ilgar Aliyev noted that a stable IT system is the basis for possible foreign investments.

“A powerful IT infrastructure security system must be implemented in our liberated territories - a reliable IT infrastructure is the basis for attracting foreign investment,” he stressed.

The expert-analyst stated that Karabakh has every opportunity to become the leading IT Center of Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus as a whole.
