By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:
This week, the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan stated it assists Azerbaijan in determining the priorities of bilateral cooperation in all areas, including in the field of information technology, Trend reports.
“We have provided assistance across all sectors, including in the area of information technology,” Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauskas said this week.
“For example, the EU4Digital Initiative is the largest regional action that is specifically focused on harmonization of digital markets across the EaP region. It is entirely EU-funded with a total budget of almost €15 million covering all six Eastern partner countries. The EU4Digital Initiative aims to foster economic development and market opportunities by eliminating existing obstacles for online services for citizens, businesses and public administrations, through the harmonization of the digital environments throughout the Eastern partner countries and with the EU,” Jankauskas said.
“Moreover, the EU is financing a Twinning project in the field of intellectual property in Azerbaijan,” head of the delegation said.
“The goal of the project is to strengthen the legal and institutional framework for the protection and management of works protected by copyright and related rights in digital networks, as well as to assist the Intellectual Property Agency in the development of the Intellectual Property Center by supporting the creation of the ‘National Digital Aggregator’ - digital repositories of national heritage sites,” added Jankauskas.
Also this week, it became known that MasterCard is developing e-commerce in Azerbaijan through its campaigns, and the accelerated growth of the e-commerce market will lead to the development and consolidation of new trends.
According to Acting Director of the Research Institute of Economic Reforms under the Ministry of Economy, Arzu Huseynova, one of these trends is the transition to D2C (Direct-to-Consumer), that is, sales of products without intermediaries in the form of retailers, distributors and dealers.
“Another new trend is the proliferation of CDP (customer data platform). Companies strive to collect more customer information, including about communication channels with the store, and this opportunity is provided by the CDP platforms,” she added.
In addition, it became known this week that in 2020, the volume of non-cash transactions on payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 34 percent compared to 2019, contactless payments - by 5.2 times, and payments on the Internet and mobile banking - by 65 and 90 percent, respectively.
