BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. This week it was noted that the provision of 5G services in Azerbaijan will accelerate the development of the mobile communications sector. The Caucasus region is currently undergoing a digital transformation. In Azerbaijan, a number of mobile operators have already started providing 5G services, which will accelerate the development of this sector. It was also noted that in order to accelerate investment in mobile communications, it is necessary to review tax duties, develop new mechanisms to encourage.

In addition, this week it was said that the mobile communications sector of Azerbaijan has reached a new level of development and is developing at a rapid pace. Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev noted that Azerbaijan continues to invest in the infrastructure of the broadband network and by 2024 it is planned to cover the entire country with the Internet.

Also this week, it was reported that Azercell aims at 100 percent coverage of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan with mobile communications. The company invests in three main areas: infrastructure, efficiency and human capital. It is also working on a project to expand and cover the 4G network. Over half of Azercell's mobile stations have been updated and work is underway to install another 150 new mobile stations.

It also became known that Azerbaijan is working together with the International Telecommunication Union to develop 5G, prevent cyber incidents, and create a rapid response team.

It was also reported that the Azerbaijani company Agrodairy plans to establish cooperation with Azerkosmos and observe the sowing fields through satellite images.

This week it was also noted that Azerbaijan is ahead of the countries of Central Asia in terms of data download speed in the 4G network. The average data download speed in the 4G network of mobile operators in Azerbaijan is 34.82 Mbps. Azerbaijan is ahead of these countries in terms of outgoing traffic speed - 10.35 Mbps. Coverage of Azerbaijani population with 4G network is 73.8 percent.

In addition, it became known that over one million households in Azerbaijan, or 39 percent of the total number, are provided with broadband Internet. Prior to the adoption of the Online Azerbaijan program, broadband Internet coverage was less than 10 percent. By the end of 2023, 55 percent of Azerbaijani households will be covered by fiber-optic Internet services.

This week it was noted that the World Bank promotes digital literacy in Azerbaijan.

It was also reported that the Azerbaijan Innovation and Digital Development Agency is launching a pilot project on postal services. The new service will focus on moving email services from offline to online.
